Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I am a mom of two boys, and I have a full-time day job in Human Resources, so I just do this on the side for the pure joy of it! I’ve always had to have my hands in something creative, whether it be home remodels or art. It’s all the same in my mind!

What drew you to painting with watercolors?

I tend to be a perfectionist, and I think the idea of having to let go of that was appealing. When it comes to watercolors, you sometimes have to embrace the “imperfect,” but I’m still learning how to do that.

What is your favorite thing you have ever made?

The bunny I painted chasing after butterflies is probably my favorite so far. This piece was honestly a turning point for me, because once I created it, I knew I was finding my true style. It was intended for children, but it turns out that even adults love it.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I either wanted to be an illustrator or an architect. Looking back now, it makes a lot of sense. I’ve remodeled three houses so far, and now I’m doing watercolor illustrations.  Turns out you can’t change who you were meant to be!

How would you describe your creative process?

I draw inspiration from a lot of different things before I even begin. The color I painted a wall in my house, a pattern on fabric, a vintage piece of art. I evaluate what I like about each and why and try to incorporate that into my work.

Where do you most like to create?

Honestly, it’s my dining room table.  I’d like to have a nice studio one day, but for now it works!

Why is it important to support local artists and makers?

Go buy wall art from a major chain and then buy a piece from an actual artist. You’ll feel the difference in your home. Your local artists spread the same feeling throughout your community. Think of the murals you see in most downtown areas and how bright and lively they make them feel.

Why do you love doing what you do?

As a mom, I do this as a creative outlet and to have a little something of my own.  And simply put, I love creating pretty things for people to enjoy!

What are you currently working on? What are you excited to create next?

I am currently working on a honeysuckle piece, and what is next I am not sure!  I’d love to get into landscapes, so we’ll see!
