Clutch Collective, an art retail shop in Marietta, Ohio, will host its first Adult Book Fair on Saturday, March 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in partnership with The Novel Notion, a local maker of bookish goods. In the spirit of the beloved Scholastic Book Fair, the event will feature various book-themed items, including handmade goods by local artists, a book swap, refreshments, and more.

“Remember the feeling of having dollars to spend at your school book fair? The hologram bookmarks, the tiny erasers, and of course, the books!” said Sarah Arnold, owner of Clutch Collective. “We’re so excited to partner with Sam to bring that energy to the shop with this event.”

Sam Miller, owner of The Novel Notion, hosted an adult book fair for her book club last year. The event was such a hit, she wanted to do it again. “For years I’ve been making my wares as a creative outlet while sharing the final products with my family and friends. This event will be the first time I’m selling and sharing with a large audience. I could not be more excited to showcase my talents and love for books while getting support from Clutch Collective.”

On Saturday, The Novel Notion will pop-up in the shop with a variety of merchandise, including key chains, handmade pencil pouches, bookmarks, and all kinds of pens, pencils, and erasers. All items will feature book-themed fabrics, sayings and iconic images and quotes from contemporary fiction.

Clutch Collective will debut new artist-made items for the event, including a special collection of handmade ceramics featuring contemporary literary themes by local artists Eva and Tim Bennett of The Beard and The Bun Pottery. In Wit & Whimzy, Sara Flood of Sara & Sybil will be set up with her handmade kindle covers and book sleeves, perfect for protecting your favorite reads.

“We’re also very excited about the Book Swap,” said Arnold. “We’ve already collected dozens of books, and there’s still time to donate to the exchange. Books will be organized by genre during the exchange and anyone is welcome to take books home with them from the event at no charge.”

The community is invited to donate books for the swap at Clutch Collective during normal business hours. Books should be in good, readable condition with minimal wear and tear, and for either mature YA or adult readers. All books must be dropped off before Thursday, March 20. After the event, any remaining books will be donated to the Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Washington County Public Library.

“In a world that can feel so heavy, I’m always looking for ways to incorporate joy into my life and for others. I cannot think of a better way to feel joy than reliving the nostalgia of the Scholastic Book Fair,” said Miller. “I’m so excited to test out selling my handmade goods at this event and bring a small joy to our community.”

Every attendee will be entered to win one of a selection of prizes, including items exclusive to the event, end for every book donated to the swap, donors will have additional entries.

“Like many people I know, I’ve fallen back in love with reading over the past few years,” said Arnold. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to create space for all of us to swap books, recommendations, and indulge in the novelty of book related goods that speak to each of tastes.”

The community is invited to join in the fun at Clutch Collective, 152 Front Street in Downtown Marietta, on Saturday, March 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
